Who we Are
The Lake Fork Valley Conservancy is a nonprofit organization focusing
on preserving and enhancing the present for the future.  We seek to
protect the most beautiful and fragile of the undeveloped land in Hinsdale
County, including wildlife habitat, view corridors, riparian areas and
wetlands, as well as preserving the local ranching tradition and providing
access to public land.  In addition to preserving the undeveloped land in
our county, our group focuses on the planning and implementation of
restoration initiatives on land and waterways that have been impacted by
development and historic mining practices.

The LFVC is comprised of a board of directors and a technical advisory
committee.  The advisory committee, formerly known as the Lake Fork
Watershed Stakeholders, is a partnership of citizens, private entities,
local organizations, and government who came together in January of
2002 to better understand the resources and impacts within our valley
and to initiate a collaborative, community effort to deal proactively with
these issues.  The group recognized that historic impacts in the
watershed along with the expected future demands from increased
growth and recreational use required forward thinking through a
watershed approach to ensure good stewardship.

Walk away quietly in any
direction and taste the
freedom of the mountaineer . . .
climb the mountains and
get their good tidings.
Nature's peace will flow
into you as sunshine flows
into trees.  The winds will
blow their freshness into
you, and the storms their
energies, while cares
will drop off like autumn
leaves.
