Membership
To begin with, if you are not a member, join the Lake Fork Valley
Conservancy.  If you are already a member, consider donating volunteer
time.  Financially, consider giving a gift to the Lake Fork Valley
Conservancy:

Gifts of Cash
The Lake Fork Valley Conservancy depends on gifts of cash from people
who care about open space in Hinsdale County.  You may choose an
outright gift or pledge that can be paid over several years.  Contributions
of cash are tax deductible.

Gifts of Appreciated Assets
You can contribute stocks, mutual funds or land.  Any appreciated asset
donated to the Lake Fork Valley Conservancy may provide various tax
benefits to the donor.

Gifts of Land
The Lake Fork Valley Conservancy needs two types of land:  those with
valuable environmental or aesthetic values which we will preserve in
perpetuity and those which we can sell or trade, the proceeds of which
can help protect critical open space.  Gifts of land may provide various
tax benefits to the donor.

Gifts of Conservation Easements
If you own land with preservation values, consider granting a
conservation easement to a bone fide Land Trust.  When you give a
conservation easement, you agree to limit development on your land
while retaining all the benefits of land ownership including the right to sell
your land or pass it to family members through inheritance.  In many
cases, granting a conservation easement reduces the assessed value of
your land and results in significant property tax savings. Donations of
conservation easements may provide both income and estate tax
benefits to the donor.

The Lake Fork Valley Conservancy helps facilitate links between land
owners and land trusts.

Bargain Sales
If you own land that may be of interest, the Lake Fork Valley
Conservancy can help find potential conservation buyers of your
property but at less than its appraised value.  The difference between the
purchase price and the appraised value may result in a tax deductible
charitable contribution to the donor if the purchaser.

As always, you should consult your tax advisor regarding the benefits of
various forms of gifting.

A nation that destroys it's
soils destroys itself. Forests
are the lungs of our land,
purifying the air and giving
fresh strength to our people.
