Celebrating Lake City's namesake and Colorado's second largest natural lake

THe Anniversary weekend

Friday, June 5th, 2015 kicks off the Lake San Cristobal Anniversary Weekend, a celebration of Lake City’s azure namesake that will throw the doors open on summer in town. Activities will revolve around the 33rd annual Lake San Cristobal 5k/10k (LSC 5k/10k), a footrace that first lured athletes to Lake City in 1981 with Lake City’s spectacular scenery, glorious early-summer weather, and exceptional hospitality.

Fri., JUNE 6

7:30 p.m. Pete McBride's, Chasing Water, and Delta Dawn open at the Mountaineer Movie Theatre!
*Proceeds of this session go to the Lake Fork Valley Conservancy!!

Sun., June 8

9 a.m. Birding Tour at Lake San Cristobal
*Bring binoculars, water, sunblock, and durable walking shoes and meet us at Red Mountain Gulch picnic area at 9 a.m. Coffee and Tea provided!!



Sat., June 7

7:30 a.m. Registration and packet pickup for the 5K/10K

9:30 a.m. The 5K/10K begins!

2 p.m. Slumgullion Geological Tour led by local Geologist, Harvey DuChene. Meet at the Slumgullion Slide Overlook, Highway 149, mile marker 66. Bring your binoculars and a chair!

The 33rd Annual L.S.C. 5K/10K

In 1981, Lake City saw athletes at the first annual Lake San Cristobal 5k/10k (LSC 5k/10k) sprint into tow. The footrace first lured visitors to Lake City with Lake City’s spectacular scenery, glorious early-summer weather, and exceptional hospitality.

Race co-director Amanda Caldon hopes to reinvigorate the venerable race. Sifting through registration records at a recent meeting with co-director Phillip Virden, she found the threshold of success: “At its height in 1995, the 5K/10K drew 225 runners. That’s something to aspire to.” Virden also hopes to restore the race to its former glory, in which it served as a signal to visitors that Lake City was open for business. “The LSC 5k/10k has always adhered to these priorities,” Virden added, “but this year we wanted to coordinate and cooperate more with other Lake City organizations.”

Race Schedule


7:30 a.m. Day-of registration and packet pickup for the 33rd Annual Lake San Cristobal 5K/10K.

9:30 a.m. The race begins at the south end of Lake San Cristobal! Shuttles will be available to take registrants from Town Park to both the 5K and 10K starting lines from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
